Bustiers

Bustier :
A long-line brassiere, often strapless, usually worn as outwear
A formfitting sleeveless and usually strapless woman's top, worn as lingerie and often as evening attire.

Pairing a corset or bustier with jeans has long been a glamorous evening option (and it's a great favourite with celebrities out on the town), but it doesn't always make the grade for daytime.

Bustiers for Fall:

Luxe elegance with sequins at Giorgio Armani and all tied up at Missoni

Lacy and racy at D&G

Hard-core at Proenza Schoulder (left) and leather dominatrix at Moschino

Or do a JPG and don the bustier on your back:

Some classic looks (and other not so classy ones) from the falls of the past:

Cynthia Rowley (Fall 2001) and D&G (Fall 2002) mix a glamourous bustier with a minimalistic black suit to create a perfect ensemble for both work and play

Classic Bustier evening wear at Valentino (Fall 2002) and Proenza Schoulder (Fall 2003)

Lingerie galore Christian Lacroix (Fall 2003 Couture) and Dior (Fall 2001 RTW)

Layering bustiers over shirts/blouses is not quite my cup of tea especially when the colours contrast like that in Missoni (Fall 2001 RTW) and Ruffo Research (Fall 2002 RTW)

A good article about secret history of the corset.
